At the Central Media Center of the Office of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan today, a press conference on the progress of preparations for the 5th World Nomadic Games has taken place. Attending the press conference was the Deputy Minister of Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Serik Maratovich Zharasbayev; Head of the Organizing Committee of the 5th World Nomadic Games, Mr. Nail Faridovich Nurov; and Vice President of the National Sports Association, Mr. Tastanbek Kutzhanovich Esentaev.
Deputy Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Serik Zharasbayev began his speech by informing about the work that have been completed for the preparations of the Nomadic Games.
“First of all, I would like to announce that so far, the composition of the Organizing Committee and co-organizers of the Nomadic Games has been determined, in which, in addition to the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, there is also the World Ethnosport Confederation, the Organization of Turkic States, and National Sports Association of the Republic of Kazakhstan. On 29 April, UNESCO Headquarters confirmed its sponsorship of the 5th World Nomadic Games, and on 20 June, UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund) signed a Cooperation Agreement with the Organizing Committee of the 5th World Nomadic Games, in which UNICEF is recognized as an official partner of the 5th World Nomadic Games,” said Mr. Serik Zharasbayev.
According to the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Sports, most sports facilities are ready to receive such large-scale competitions. The Ice Palace “Alau” and the Stadium “Astana-Arena,” are undergoing renovations and are expected to be completed on August 15. The renovations at the racecourse “Kazanat” will be completed on August 7.
To implement the President’s directive to cut costs of organizing the 5th World Nomad Games due to heavy flooding last spring, several changes have been introduced to the program. The Games’s duration has been shortened by one day and will take place from September 8 to 13. The number of people and countries attending has also been reduced. Previously, the Games was expected to have the participation of 4,000 people from more than 100 countries. Now, more than 2,000 people are expected to participate. To date, 89 countries have officially confirmed their participation in the Games. It is known that this year for the first time there will be the participation of Brunei-Darussalam, Liberia, Venezuela, Ireland, Dominica, Gambia at the Nomadic Games.
South Korea’s Ssirym wrestling has been removed from the sports program. Weight classes in some sports have also been reduced. In addition, the demonstration section, which included 10 sports, is now completely excluded from the Games program, except for “Ұлы дала жорығы” (The Great Race of the Steppe). However, at the request of the leaders of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tatarstan, two sports have been added to the sports program: the game Kyrgyz Kok Boru and the Tatar wrestling belt “Koresh”.
“We have taken all measures to optimize costs and have saved 1.7 billion compared to the original estimate. However, we are actively working to attract Kazakh companies and foreign enterprises to sponsor the event, aiming to organize the 5th World Nomadic Games in Astana at the highest level”, – Deputy Minister of Tourism and Sports said.
Head of the Organizing Committee of the 5th World Nomadic Games, Mr. Nail Nurov, announced the main partner and sponsor of the 5th World Nomadic Games. The main partner of the Games The 5th World Nomad Sports is the People’s Bank of Kazakhstan Joint Stock Company (Halyk Bank). The main sponsor of the 5th World Nomadic Games is the electrical engineering company ALAGEUM ELECTRIC.
“The funds allocated from partners and sponsors will be used to pay prizes to the winners and runners-up of the competitions – the total prize money is 253 250 002 tenge, as well as to buy air tickets flights for the participants of the Games, construction of the awards area, production of commemorative medals and certificates, and other costs,” – said Mr. Nail Nurov.
Mr. Nail Nurov introduced the medals that will be awarded to the winners and prize winners at the 5th World Nomadic Games: “The medals are designed in a special style, symbolizing unity of all sports competitions under one roof – a symbol of the unity of the people of Kazakhstan. The sun symbol on the medal is associated with the sun, the energy of life and forward movement. The image of the knight on the medal traditionally symbolizes movement, the desire to achieve goals and victory. The medal’s ribbon is the color of carnelian – an orange-red mineral, symbolizing energy, motivation and resilience. Carnelian is associated with vitality and positive energy.”
